Mastering Eishin Ryu Iaido Samurai Sword, Volume 7
This DVD features Masayuki Shimabukuro giving an in-depth interview about his love of Iaido, the style's history and traditions. Iaido began in the mid 1950's during the feudal age of Japan. Shimabukuro mentions his teacher Mr. Miura and that the style consists of 12 Seitei katas, four of them performed in a sitting or kneeling position and eight of them in a standing position. Iaido consists of four main components, the smooth controlled movements of drawing the sword, striking or cutting an opponent, shaking blood from the blade and replacing the sword in the scabbard. Shimabukuro also emphasizes that the health benefits of training in Iaido should not be overlooked. Masayuki Shimabukuro is a lifelong practitioner of Iaido, a classical warrior, possessing many years of dedicated training in Iaido.
Masayuki Shimabukuro was born in March 1948 in Osaka, Japan. He studied Judo, Karate-do and Okinawan weapons as a teenager. His sword training began in 1975.
